Waikiki, Hawaii

I went to Hawaii last summer. I am almost a year late in writing this blog but I decided to write and share my experiences any way.

Last summer Ashley and I packed our bags and headed to the 51st state of the United States of America, after a 6 hour flight from Los Angeles we reached the paradise - the warm tropical sunshine capital of Hawaii - Honolulu!! We only had four days so we stuck to Oahu which is one of the most commercialized islands.

We first hit Waikiki beach - beautiful white sand and clear waters, boarded with tall luxury hotels and ocean front bars!  Tip: if you choose to swim in the water there is dead coral reef in shallow waters and if you step on it you might scrape your feet however, there is sand on the beach in front of The Royal Hawaiian, Waikiki Hotel. For nice walk in the evening, we headed to the Kalakaua Street which was filled places to shop and eat. A perfect way to end our first day in Hawaii!

Next, we headed out to Hanauma bay for snorkeling. It's awesome because you snorkel on shallow waters right by the shore. Your hotel will have tours to take you there. Tip: Carry some sandwiches there is no real food there and you'll be hungry after snorkeling. Also for an extra 3 bucks they will give you a better snorkeling gear in which water won't go through.

On our second day, we headed out to Sunset Beach. We rented a car and drove along the shores on the scenic coastal highway # 83 stopping at the gorgeous look outs on the way. But before hitting the sunset beach, we had to stop at the almost historical, Giovanni's shrimp  truck for some shrimp and shaved ice. Tip: Make sure you have some cash on you, they do not accept credit cards. There are other there are other shrimp trucks that will say original but Giovanni's is the best and the one that features on travel shows. Turtle bay is also a  good spot to stop by on your drive to sunset beach.

Next up was  Luau shows. Germaine's and Paradise Cove are most popular luau shows. If you are vegetarian ask them for your dinner options (luau quite frankly is over rated but worth going once just for the experience).

Where to eat: If you like sushi Doraku Sushi has some of the best in Hawaii and it's not very expensive. Located at the Royal Hawaiian Center on  Kalakaua the restaurant is not hard to find.
Rainbow Drive-In  was really good for local food. Giovanni's Shrimp Truck.

------- One more thing: Sheraton Waikiki Beach Hotel has a nice infinity pool bar overlooking the ocean to hang out.
